Champéry is a charming,
lively ski resort at an altitude of 1050m in the Swiss canton of
Valais. It is nestled at the feet of the Dents du Midi and
Dents Blanches Mountains in the heart of the Portes du Soleil
ski area. Tourism here dates back to 1857, when the first
hotel in Champéry - the Hôtel des Dents-du-Midi - first opened.
This makes Champéry one of the oldest tourist towns in Switzerland.
Both a charmingly authentic
village and a lively tourist resort to suit everyone, Champéry will
win your heart. The village street is lined with chalets typical to
the region and remarkable for their sculpted balconies and "toits en
sifflet" (rooflines which project like bellows).
Chalet Romantique is just
a minute's walk to
the cable car which, in less than 5 minutes, will whisk you away to
the massive Portes du Soleil ski area, offering more than 650km
of ski runs and 212 ski lifts across 12 resorts in Switzerland and
France ~ all accessible with a single ski pass!
From here you can ski a complete
circular route from Switzerland, into France and back into Switzerland
within a day, and still have time for a relaxing lunch in one of the
many mountain restaurants along the way. And this challenge is
not just for experts, most runs are blue with the occasional
manageable red.
